There is no short supply of YouTuber memoirs, and for the most part, I don’t bother to read them as I have trouble believing someone my own age has enough to say that’s memoir-worthy. But then again, I see a lot of these book deals as just ways for YouTubers to expand their brand and publishers to make bank. The dedicated fans devour this stuff.
Despite my skepticism, I decided to listen to the audiobook of Tyler Oakley’s memoir, which is read by him. Hearing him read it really made the experience. I fully enjoyed it.
However, while it was interesting to learn more about him, I struggled to feel like I got much from it other than a bunch of stories that he never vlogged about. But maybe I’m just not his core demographic and couldn’t totally relate to a lot of his life experiences. I’m not even close to a stan for Tyler Oakley, so maybe the fault lies with me.
Ultimately, if you’re a Tyler Oakley fan, then I think you will probably enjoy his memoir. If you’re not, then I don’t know what you’ll make of his life experiences.
